Kurzweil 3000 is a third-party screen reader and writing software packeage offered by Kurzweil Educational Systems. Kurzweil 3000 will assist users who are blind or low-vision to use a Windows computer. The software is also aimed at helping those with dyslexia or other learning disabilities that make reading and writing difficult. This guide will focus on starting Kurzweil 3000.
Starting Kurzweil 3000
Kurzweil 3000 may be launched by double-clicking on the desktop icon or from the Kurzweil 3000 entry in the Start Menu. If Kurzweil is configured for a network installation, you will be prompted to enter your username (Figure 1). Otherwise, you will see the Kurzweil 3000 window (Figure 2).

Exiting Kurzweil
To exit Kurzweil, exit the Kurzweil application.
Kurzweil Options
Kurzweil 3000 is highly configurable, and a discussion of the configuration options for Kurzweil is beyond the scope of this document. A screenshot of the basic settings windows for Kurzweil 3000 is shown in Figure 3 below. The reader is encouraged to read the documentation included with Kurzweil or to click on one of the links in the More Information section below.
