Christy Blew is an IT Accessibility Specialist in Training and Outreach in the Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. With almost 20 years of experience, she finds her greatest success in helping to eliminate stigmas and myths that have been associated with IT Accessibility through advocating and educating.

Christy has no preference if training is individual or groups, she just enjoys sharing her knowledge and is known as the go-to person for document accessibility. She enjoys the validation when attending training where the instructors are her previous students. She likes to comment at least once, “I taught you well.” Christy notes that there are always requests for courses in Word, PowerPoint, and PDF, and she is currently developing a new series to complement her current course, IT Accessibility 101. She has presented in the past for the Great Lakes ADA Center and at various accessibility-related conferences including CSUN.

Christy is a member of the W3C Protocols and Formats working group and the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP). She serves on several campus initiatives including the campus IT Policy committee on the University of Illinois Campus. You will also find her collaborating with other Big10 Universities to develop IT accessibility solutions to make the U of I campus a better place for everyone, including those with disabilities.

Christy considers herself a jack-of-all-trades. When she isn’t on the clock, you will find her in her woodworking shop making puzzles and small games, volunteering as a facilitator for an Addiction/Recovery Program through her church, polishing her online coping and mindfulness program. or at a local pond fishing. Christy currently holds a Master’s in Technology and a Certification in Computer Science from Eastern Illinois University, and a certificate in Audio Description through Audio Description Associates, LLC.

Christy is the winner of the 2018 Larine Y. Cowan Make a Difference for Excellence in Access and Accommodations Award, "in recognition of your tireless efforts in advocating for inclusion and access at Illinois".
