Camps

 

The University of Illinois is once again hosting its summer sports camps and excited to provide all-new housing which is state-of-the-art and across the street from the gym! This summer the Illini will be offering 5 events — Elite Basketball Camp, Individual Basketball Skills Camp, 2 Basketball Coaches Clinics (advanced and intermediate) and Track Camp.  At The University of Illinois, our goal for these summer camps is to continue to develop wheelchair sports. We would love to assist in the development and improvement of your wheelchair sport programs. Individual Skills Camp

  • When: June 29 - July 3, 2014  (first session begins the evening of June 29; check out is 9:00am July 3)
  • Cost: $385
  • Check-in: June 29th, 1-4pm at Nugent Hall
  • Check-out: July 3rd, 9am at Nugent Hall

This is our our most popular camp. It is a great camp for beginners and/or athletes who want to fine tune their foundational wheelchair basketball skills. Instruction at this camp will be provided by the U of I coaching staff and student-athletes. This will provide the best hands-on experience for your developing athletes. Athletes attending are expected to be physically and mentally prepared for the 8 hours a day training that this type of camp presents. For males and females of ages 12-19.

Coaches Clinic I

  • When: June 29 - July 3, 2014 (first session begins the evening of June 29; check out is 9:00am July 3)
  • Cost: $350
  • Check-in: June 29th, 1-4pm at Nugent Hall
  • Check-out: July 3rd, 9am at Nugent Hall

In conjunction with Individual Camp, our Coaches Clinic II will review the basic skills of wheelchair basketball and move forward with more intermediate concepts. Coaches will also have an opportunity to coach their own team at Individual Camp. Again, if you have 5 or more athletes from your team attend any Illinois sports camp, the camp fee for the clinic will be waived.

Elite Camp

  • When: July 20-25 (first session begins the evening of July 20; check out is 9:00am on July 26)
  • Cost: $500
  • Check-in: July 20th, 1-4pm at Nugent Hall
  • Check-out: July 25th, 9am at Nugent Hall

This camp will showcase the top 24 junior athletes in the world, and in the past, 75% of these athletes have gone on to represent their countries at international competitions. The instruction at this camp will be provided by the U of I wheelchair basketball coaching staff. It is designed to replicate and prepare athletes for a national team experience. Athletes attending are expected to be physically, mentally and emotionally prepared for the rigors this type of camp presents. Open to any male or female who is atleast a Sophmore in High School and no older than 22 at start of camp.

Coaches Clinic II

  • When: July 20-25 (first session begins the evening of July 20; check out is 9:00am on July 26)
  • Cost: $350 (waiver possible)
  • Check-in: July 20th, 1-4pm at Nugent Hall
  • Check-out: July 25th, 9am at Nugent Hall

In conjunction with Elite Camp, this clinic will focus on coaching the advanced skills of wheelchair basketball. Coaches will get an opportunity to coach high quality athletes and watch execution at an elite level. The cost of this clinic is $350 but if you have 5 athletes or more from your team attend any Illinois summer camp (Elite, Individual, and/or Track), the camp fee will be waived. Transportation is not included.

Housing Information:

Do I need to provide a roommate preference in advance?
It is not necessary to contact the camps office in advance with a roommate preference. All roommate preferences are handled by the housing staff and honored at check-in. .

CAMP REGISTRATION WILL OPEN IN FEBURARY 2014.  IF YOU NEED TO REGISTER BEFORE THEN, PLEASE CALL 217-244-6083

In order for camp registration to be complete, we must receive your Summer Camp Application, deposit, Medical Form, and Photo, Medical Release, and Transportation Forms by Friday, May 23, the registration deadline.
