July 29, 2013

The University of Illinois Wheelchair Athletic Program is excited to announce that Mr. Matthew Buchi has been hired as the Head Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Coach.  As a student at the University of Illinois, Matt had the opportunity to develop as an athlete under Coach Mike Frogley and then work as his assistant coach for two years.  After graduating from the UI, Matt served as the assistant coach of several wheelchair basketball teams including collegiate, community teams in Canada, and the USA Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team.  Matt’s accomplishments include three gold medals, two collegiate national championships as an athlete, and two collegiate national championships as a coach.   Matt’s longevity with the University of Illinois adaptive sports program equips him with a strong history of the training, ethics, and coaching strategies customary for our men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball programs.  Along with his coaching experience, Matt has conducted multiple wheelchair basketball camps and clinics around the world.  Matt’s experience will compliment his passion for teaching and integrating technology into improving his players.  Please join us in welcoming Matt back to the Illinois family.
